In the future, I sincerely hope the Republicans can give more thought to war
Jean Brooks, Fort Atkinson
Making war on another country should be a very serious thing to do. The pros and cons must be gone over by all with power and authority. Alternatives need to be discussed. Letting President Trump make war because former President Biden got to do so is not rational.
Let us learn from history to avoid repetition of past mistakes
Margaret Schroeder, Fort Atkinson
During the many years I lived in Germany, I used public transportation like most people, which allowed me to chat with everyday Germans. When older Germans realized I was American, they generally gushed with profuse apologies about the Nazi era. As young people, they did not know what was really going on. They did not know about the camps yet, so if there was a dictum to attend a youth march and rally, “we just went.”
ICE agents have committed homicide on American streets
John Callan, Fort Atkinson
In his article published in the March 22 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rep. Scott Fitzgerald writes, ‘Democrats suddenly reversed course and blocked the legislation needed to keep the department fully operational’ (‘The Democrats’ stunt is reckless at a time threats against America are up’).
Voter bills are solutions in search of problems
Meg Waraczynski, Town of Cold Sprinng
The SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) Act is back and Wisconsin’s own Rep. Bryan Steil has introduced in the House the “Make Elections Great Again” (MEGA) Act.
Other branches, levels of government must counter Trump
Ken Berg, Watertown
For these following current events, one can’t be anything but appalled by the state of affairs in America. It is embarrassing on almost every level of political, cultural & economic discourse. From President Trump cutting all federal funding for PBS and NPR and Congress yielding to these bully tactics, to Trump’s executive order laying off nearly all of Voice of America’s 1,300 journalists who speak to a worldwide audience on the virtues and successes of democracy. We created this exceptional program in 1942.
Inclusivity and dignity as a human right in America
Tiffany Bloshenko, Fort Akinson
Hi. I’m one of your neighbors, the progressive kind. One you probably haven’t met because I don’t know many people here yet. But the ones I do know and love? They’re the kind of people I used to dream about having in my life. Kind. Decent. Accepting. The kind who show up, speak up, and try their best to make the world a little softer for someone else.
Get the facts on Supreme Court race
BEN ADAMS, Watertown
We’ve been here before, two years ago, as we struggled to pronounce Protosawicz, and elected her to rebalance the court. Subsequently, the Court has become more open to addressing women’s rights, gerrymandering and restoring the balance between the WI Executive and Legislative branches.
Why do you support Trump?
Linda L. Riedl, Jefferson
To Trump supporters – Why? Why do you support someone who is constantly calling people names? Why do you support a pathological liar? Why do you support a convicted felon? Why do you support someone who told someone of color to “go back to the country they are from?”
Our country’s moral fiber
Mark VanLaeys, Delavan
Has our country’s moral fiber deteriorated to the point where overwhelming evidence of criminality and blatant immorality are no longer disqualifiers for potential political candidates?
Women and Vets for Trump???
Jim Marousis, Fort Atkinson
“Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” Trump in 2018 when refusing to go to a French cemetery for fallen American soldiers. On John McCain, a Vietnam era war hero: “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”
