There are 2 candidates for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court slot that will be decided on April 1. Susan Crawford, a Dane County Circuit Court judge goes against former Walker Attorney General Brad Schimel.
We’ve been here before, two years ago, as we struggled to pronounce Protosawicz, and elected her to rebalance the court. Subsequently, the Court has become more open to addressing women’s rights, gerrymandering and restoring the balance between the WI Executive and Legislative branches.
In this traditionally non-partisan race, get ready for the partisan ads. Susan Crawford will be portrayed as one of Macbeth’s witches or tagged with the Scarlet Letter “D” for Dane County. Brad Schimel will be portrayed as swamped by a closetful of untested rape kits from his time as AG.
Ignore all that. Look at their records and their pronouncements. Judge Crawford is yearning for a return to non-partisan discussions on the justice as she fights to restore the pre-eminence of the law. She is guided by common sense and the basic values of right snd wrong. And no one is above the law.
Brad Schimel has spoken out on the pardoning of the January 6 convicted felons. He has made the point that the trials were held in Washington DC or NY and it is impossible to get a fair trial in these liberal-leaning cities.
Think about that for a moment. He does not trust our judicial system, the one he wants to be a supreme part of in Wisconsin. He doesn’t trust you, as a citizen, as a jury member, to listen to the facts and determine guilt or innocence. Justice is a matter of geography! This in itself is a marker for his unfitness for the task.
Do your research. Ignore the frenzy of TV ads. And maybe, like me, you’ll see Susan Crawford right choice on April 1st.
