Our January speaker is Iuscely Flores who is the new leader of Fair Maps Coalition Wisconsin.  Here is a message from her:

Dearest Activists and friends,

Last year, I learned the true meaning of grassroots grit. From phone calls, emails, and zoom meetings buzzing under the midnight sun to the joyous roar on election night, the Supreme Court race and fight for fair maps, 2023 was a whirlwind of action, fueled by an outpouring of community voices. This was a year of countless strategy sessions, coffee-fueled oral testimonies and public tellings, presentations with enthusiastic activists and skeptical politicos, rallies and protests  – each one more evidence of the power of collective action.

As we step into the new year, that burning hope keeps me energized. I dream of a future where map-drawing isn’t a secret operation, but a transparent dance floor where diverse voices lead the steps. Where rural communities, often silenced, finally see their needs reflected in the maps, alongside urban and growing communities. And where young voters of color, brimming with passion, turn out in record numbers, painting Wisconsin’s future with vibrant hues of change.

Let’s charge into 2024 with hearts brimming with unwavering optimism, continuing to strive for fair maps, rural inclusivity, BIPOC engagement, and a Wisconsin where every voice finds its rhythm on the electoral map.

Let’s make it a year where grassroots hope blooms into powerful reality. Thank you all for your continuous support and constant uplifting.

Yours in service,
Iuscely
