This pandemic has taught us so much about what’s important. Most people now see that community schools are vital places of learning and emotional support for children. But the lawmakers who control the state’s Joint Finance Committee are blocking an entire $77 million allocation of federal relief funds because not every school was able to provide an early plan for full in-person learning.

This is a disgrace. According to a recent Wisconsin Public Education Network report, many public schools went back to school this fall in a financial deficit mode. School districts face huge unknowns. The state legislature’s political blockade only makes things worse.

I ask everyone to join me in calling on Rep. Mark Born (608) 266-2540 and Sen. Howard Marklein (608) 266-0703 to immediately accept the Federal ESSER III education funds approved for our children.
