In his article published in the March 22 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Rep. Scott Fitzgerald writes, ‘Democrats suddenly reversed course and blocked the legislation needed to keep the department fully operational’ (‘The Democrats’ stunt is reckless at a time threats against America are up’).
Now why did they go and do a thing like that? Because ICE and US Customs and Border Protection have committed homicide on American streets – to note only their most heinous actions – that’s why.
Congressional Democrats have continually voted to fund the Department of Homeland Security – with these two exceptions, so that those agencies may be held to account for what they are doing. Fitzgerald does not mention this in his article.
Fitzgerald further asks, ‘Why would ICE need to be kept away from polling sites if illegal aliens are not voting in our elections?’ (evidently, he savors the word ‘aliens’, getting it in four times over the course of his article). Is the congressman saying that undocumented immigrants are in fact voting in US elections? If so, what is his evidence that backs up this claim? He offers none because there is none, even House Speaker Mike Johnson admitted as much, nor could he name a single instance of voter fraud that the SAVE Act, so-called, would have prevented.
A question of my own, then, for Fitzgerald: What is the problem to which the SAVE Act is a solution?
